Acne and Nutrition
You are what you eat, or in this case, what you eat
ends up on your face. Some studies have said that nutrition, or lack
thereof, is not especially significant to whether or not you will suffer an
acne outbreak. It may not even really completely prevent acne, but every
little bit helps. There’s a lot we can do to find the foods that our body
needs to keep the skin healthy. There’s also quite a bit that we can avoid.
It all takes a little will power and some time, and before you know it, your
body will thank you for it.
First off, there are quite a number of vitamins the
body needs, and these not only help the skin, but they also help with other
organs as well. Vitamin A is one. As an acne sufferer, one may already be
familiar with this vitamin and its use against acne. It is the main source
of drugs like Accutane and other retinoids. These drugs can have bad side
effects and this is because vitamin A in large doses is toxic. When taken in
just the right amounts though, it not only makes the skin healthy, but it
helps the eyes too. Vitamin A can be found in yellow orange colored fruits
and vegetables like carrots and apricots.
Vitamin B is also another good source of nutrients for
healthy skin. This is just one of its many positive effects, as it also
helps circulation and metabolism. Taking B vitamins often gives one energy
and also flushes the toxins out of the body. For acne, its anti-inflammatory
effects are very helpful. It’s easy to partake in this vitamin as it can be
found in various foods like fish, eggs, and dairy.
Next up is a popular vitamin as it is important for
immunity, keeping one from sickness. Vitamin C is probably the most ingested
and familiar vitamin due to this fact. The latest studies, however, have
shown that it has antioxidants, a big help in the fight against cancer. It’s
anti-inflammatory and scar healing effects are currently being studied
further to create better products that will aid in the fight against
annoying zits and blemishes. If you like citrus fruits, then it’s already in
your system. Speaking of antioxidants, Vitamin E is also known for its
anti-cancer properties. It has been speculated that it may be able to help
with acne, but as tocotrienol or high potency E. By itself, it may be able
to decrease the production of the sebum that causes oily skin.
In general, drinking lots of water helps in cleansing
the system of toxin, as does the intake of appropriate amounts of fiber. A
balanced diet full of grains, lean and white meats, and colorful fruits and
vegetables also helps. Fried foods and saturated fats supposedly cause
blocked pores, so it is best to avoid those. The best thing about attacking
acne through nutrition is that this is an inexpensive way to deal with the
problem. There are many great tasting healthy foods; one has just to look
for them. It sure beats spending hundreds of dollars on acne medication.
